Another month is in the books!
It’s amazing how every month that goes by feels better than the last. Fall is here, which has been a huge time for us in the past.
A few highlights from the month of September include,
1) We officially moved to Williamsburg!
We moved into our brand new office at the WeWork in Williamsburg. Located right on Bedford Avenue, it really doesn’t get much better than this! And in typical Teachable fashion, we hit things off with an office warming part-ay earlier in the month.
2) Our Founder and CEO spoke at SumoCon.
Our fearless leader, Ankur Nagpal, spoke at AppSumo’s SumoCon in Austin, Texas about how to fundraise as a startup. Wish we all could have went!
3) One new full-time employee started.
We brought one one new full-time employee in Septemeber—Roy. Roy is in charge of the financials and manages accounting operations. We’re very excited to have him!
New page editor
This month we released a brand custom page editor.
In the past, you were limited to just rich text on pages. Now you can add a range of custom blocks to your pages including,
- HTML Block
- Rich Text Block
- Liquid Block
- Background Image Block
When logged into your school, you can find the new editor in Site > Pages.
Learn more about working with pages here.
Blog post comments
Readers can now leave comments on your Teachable blog posts.
Then, to have comments appear on a particular blog post, toggle Allow Comments to be on.
Want to adjust your comment settings by enabling moderation and/or allowing multi-level threading of responses? Head over to Settings > General and find the Comments section.
Zapier App is official
Another exciting development happened in September: the Teachable Zapier app is finally live! At the time of writing, we have 14 official shared zaps. Learn how to integrate Zapier with your Teachable school here.
Below are some of our most popular Zaps.
We also added an official Teachable changelog this month.
Here you will find product updates, improvements, and fixes as they happen. It’s one of our many efforts to communicate product updates and changes with our users.
OUR FINEST CONTENT FROM THE MONTH
For the past few weeks Morgan has been walking you through her online course creation process. So far she's taken us from ideation to growing an audience, and the series will continue through October.
Each blog post has an accompanying video if you prefer video content over written, too! There are four more weeks of course creation before Morgan's launch, and she'll be sharing her results once her launch wraps up, too.
So if you've been thinking of creating an online course yourself but haven't known where to start or what steps you should take - check out Morgan's blog series and follow along because she's covering every step - start to finish - in detail.

What’s the best thing about your experience working at Teachable?
The best part about working at Teachable is the working with such a smart group of people. If there is anything that I don’t understand, there is someone on the team that is willing to teach me how to master it.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT MONTH
EU VAT Digital Goods Update
On October 1st we’re rolling out a new way that we handle collecting EU VAT taxes.
In the past, the way Teachable handled VAT was inclusive - meaning we took VAT charges out of payouts to teachers. We collected the taxes ourselves and sent it to instructors at the end of the quarter to pay out.
Now, with the update, it's automatic on the Teachable gateway. VAT taxes will be collected from European users at checkout. Which is awesome because Teachable basically handles everything for you; there is zero additional work on your end. We'll be handling country evidence collection for each sale, doing the filings, and remitting the money to each country.
The VAT tax users pay at checkout depends where they reside in the EU. However, the percentage varies 15%-27%.
While VAT is automatically collected for school owners using Teachable’s payment gateway, school owners using a custom gateway must enable VAT collection in the Settings > Taxes area. School owners using a custom gateway are also responsible for doing the filings and remitting the funds to respective governments.
