2. Raised another round of funding
Since Ankur started Teachable as a small side project in 2013, the company has grown tremendously.
Over the past year, we have grown 5x to a $5million+ run rate. But more importantly, our teachers sold almost $30,000,000 in courses.
Wanting to keep the momentum going and enable entrepreneurs and creators to make a living teaching online, we decided to raise a $4m Series A round of funding.
We were featured in the news, and other fun stuff. But what’s even more exciting is what 2017 holds.
3. Hiring like crazy
With our Series A funding and big goals for 2017, hiring talent has been a huge priority this month as well as looking ahead. We’ve been interviewing people and already have found several great new employees who start in February. (Interested in joining the Teachable team? Check out our openings here.)
iOS app soft-launched
We rolled out the first version of an iOS app that allows students to access course content on the go. Keep in mind, while it is available in the app store, the app is still in beta and we’re still making improvements to it. In light of that, students should be aware that their in-app experience may not be as seamless as in-browser access from other devices.
Learn more about using the iOS app as a student here, and making your course available on it here. Once the app is out of beta, we’ll publish a guide on making your course as app-friendly as possible.
New Knowledge Base site
Earlier in January we launched a redesigned Knowledge Base site. Nothing substantial has changed except the new design is clean, modern, and easy to navigate. Take a look and explore all our information about taking your Teachable school to the next level.
Update to pages
We rolled out four new options for handling pages. The changes include a new place to edit your homepage, new blocks to add to pages, a removed-by-default school enrollment button for new schools, and a banner that appears when students view a sales page for a course they’re enrolled in.
New marketing site (aka teachable.com)
Along with the KB, our marketing site had a revamp this month. Dive into our features, compare pricing plans, check out some of our featured example schools, and tell your friends about Teachable. Can you tell we’re heading in a new direction brand-wise?! And we’re just getting started: what’s most exciting is everything else to come as we work to improve every part of the Teachable experience!

I am a Customer Care Specialist, so I help our instructors navigate the platform and troubleshoot problems.
What’s the best thing about your experience working at Teachable?
I love that the role gives me the ability to grow and not only help our school owners with their problems, but learn more about how best we can improve our tools and our customer care systems to better service everyone.
What’s an interesting Teachable school that you’ve come across?
ICANN. I like how they utilize the platform in multiple languages to help people better understand the internet and related topics.
What are you most excited about going forward?
Our company is growing so quickly thanks to our school owners. So, to be at the ground floor of something so big and to be able to make a strong impact in our customer care team is exciting.
WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT MONTH
Webhook UX improvements
The Settings > Webhooks area of your school is being streamlined so it’s simpler for you to create and edit your webhooks. You’ll also be able to view a history of successful and unsuccessful triggers from the new page.
It’s an update a lot of you have been waiting for, and we’ve been listening! In February we will introduce the ability to generate single and multiple-use coupons usable across all courses on your school, rather than limiting them to one single course. This update will make it much simpler to run schoolwide promotions and allow users to gift courses (of the giftee’s choice) to their friends and family. We’ll give you all the details when the feature goes live.
Streamlining our support
We want to support you better. Growth has been explosive this past year, and that means our small team needs to get bigger so we can effectively support all our instructors. In the coming months, we are dedicated to ramping up our Customer Care and Operations teams so we can scale further.
We’re doing a bunch of things to accomplish this:
- Improving the way you can reach out to us via the help center (and other methods)
- Hiring new Customer Care associates (3 new associates will be starting in February)
- Hiring a technical writer to help with outward-facing resources (like the Knowledge Base) as well as internal documentation and support materials
- Hiring for operational roles to streamline our processes overall

As mentioned, we just closed a round of investment for $4 million. And we want our teachers to earn even more in 2017. Our goal? $120 million in course sales. To reach this goal, we need to grow our team. We are looking to grow from 30 to 60 people over the year...and we would love for you to be one of them.
